Global payroll, with a clearer country-by-country plan.

If your company already holds entities outside the US, global payroll software is the layer that keeps each country run visible in one place. This page describes what three vendors publish, and the questions worth asking before you commit.

Start with your team.

Start with your employing entities, then compare each country’s payroll and payment route. Deel, Remote and Papaya Global are three options to explore through our published reviews. This is a selected shortlist, not a scored ranking or a hands-on test.

3 selected tools with published Best HR Tools reviews. These are starting points for evaluation, not an exhaustive market list or a scored ranking. Several may suit the same need.

Deel

Teams evaluating self-serve and managed payroll by country

Deel presents own-entity payroll that can be self-serve or managed by country, with a dashboard covering run status, variances and consolidated reporting. Payroll Connect can surface third-party payrolls, and approval roles are set per entity. Its AI flags anomalies and missing data.

Pricing approachRequest a country-specific quote

Confirm in your demoAsk which entity each approval role covers, and what the anomaly flags do when nobody acts on them.

Remote

Teams checking the local payment route alongside payroll

Remote draws a clear line between running payroll through your own entity and hiring through its EOR. It offers an integrated payments path in some countries with a bank file as the alternative, plus a dashboard and local experts.

Pricing approachRequest a country-specific quote

Confirm in your demoAsk whether integrated payments or a bank file applies in each of your countries, and who owns the file upload.

Papaya Global

Groups that want funding, payment and reporting tracked as one flow

Papaya Global consolidates payroll, payments and reporting around a plan, process, pay and analyze cycle. A single data hub connects HRIS and ERP records, with visibility from funding through to delivery, including employee and statutory payments.

Pricing approachRequest a country-specific quote

Confirm in your demoAsk how funding status is shown before a cutoff, and what a delivery exception looks like in the dashboard.

Decide what you are buying before you compare

This guide focuses on payroll for employees of your own entities. EOR is a separate service conversation when another organization will employ the worker on your behalf. Confirm the appropriate arrangement for each country.

Use the US, UK, France and Germany as separate rows in your buying brief. Confirm the employing entity, required services and payment route with each provider. A global coverage headline does not answer all three.

  • Prioritize a pay, funding or filing deadline at risk before convenience improvements.
  • Then address recurring coordination and reconciliation work.
  • Separate local-entity payroll, EOR and US-only needs in your proposals.

Read the fee as a service fee, not the full cost

Request proposals for your exact countries and workforce. Published starting fees do not establish the full cost of your configuration; separate service fees from wages and statutory funding.

Ask for the cost shape in writing. Implementation, recurring processing, payment and FX handling, off-cycle runs and year-end filings are distinct items worth pricing separately.

  • Request a country-specific quote for each country you pay in
  • Split the service fee from wages and statutory funding
  • Ask how off-cycle runs and year-end work are billed

Ask how the money actually reaches people

Processing a payroll and paying it are two steps. A vendor may calculate the run while your bank still sends the money, or it may move funds and report delivery back into the same dashboard.

The details that matter are practical: the cutoff, the currency employees receive, and what happens when a single payment is rejected.

  • Ask which payment method applies per country and what the cutoff is
  • Ask which currency lands in the employee account on payday
  • Ask who investigates a failed payment, and how fast

Pilot one country, then widen

Consider a staged rollout with a pilot country and parallel calculation checks before live payments move. Agree the number of test cycles and acceptance criteria with your payroll owners; one cycle may not cover every scenario.

Agree the plumbing before go-live: which HRIS fields map to payroll inputs, who approves each entity, and how the journal reaches your ledger.

  • Choose a pilot country and agree enough parallel checks for your scenarios.
  • Map HRIS fields and name an approval owner per entity
  • Agree GL reconciliation and a data export on exit

Which global payroll providers belong on a shortlist?

This page covers three platforms we selected for own-entity payroll: Deel, Remote and Papaya Global. It is not a ranked top ten, and the right shortlist depends on your countries and your finance stack.

What is the best payroll service?

There is no universal winner. A group paying staff through owned entities abroad needs different things from a US-only employer, so judge candidates against your own country list and approval structure.

What is the best HR software for global payroll?

Match country coverage, payroll ownership, payment routes and the systems holding your employee records. Test the connection with your HRIS and ledger alongside service and support scope.

What is global payroll?

Global payroll coordinates employee pay across countries. This guide focuses on services for your own employing entities, rather than arrangements where an employer of record employs people for you.

How is this different from an employer of record?

Remote draws the line clearly: global payroll runs through your entity, while an EOR employs the person on your behalf where you have none. The obligations and the contract differ.

Will this cover our UK, French and German entities?

Ask each vendor to confirm the specific countries in writing, including whether the run is self-serve or managed there. Country availability changes, and marketing pages describe a broad footprint.

What should we expect to pay?

Request a country-specific quote with recurring fees, implementation and any payment or FX charges itemized. Keep wages and statutory funding separate; confirm whether off-cycle or year-end services add costs.

Does the provider pay salaries or only process payroll?

Confirm each country’s route. Remote documents integrated payments in some countries and a bank-file option. Ask who submits payments, funds the account, checks delivery and handles any rejection.

How well does it integrate with our HRIS and ledger?

Ask which HRIS fields map to payroll inputs, who resolves a mismatch, and what the journal looks like for GL reconciliation. Request a sample export before you sign.

What does the AI in these platforms do?

Deel documents anomaly and missing-data flags. We have not tested them. Ask what they review, who receives an alert and who approves corrections before payroll is finalized.

Read the source
How long does implementation take?

Ask for a written plan per country rather than a headline figure. Useful checkpoints are data migration, the first parallel run, approval setup, and the first live cycle you own.

What should we ask about data transfer and security?

Ask where employee data is stored and processed, how files move between your HRIS and the platform, who inside the vendor can see pay data, and how you export everything on exit.

Sources and method

Sources checked September 21, 2026. This selected shortlist uses official product documentation and our published reviews. Fit descriptions and demo questions are editorial judgments, not measured outcomes. We did not test customer accounts or score every product in the market. Request current country-specific proposals; no total employment cost is inferred from a service fee.

Three FAQ topics were adapted from People also ask in our September 21 Google US desktop DataForSEO scan; nine are editorial. We selected relevant shortlist questions rather than reproducing a top-ten ranking. Search visibility and advertising CPC are not product quality scores.
