What Each Product Covers

Connecteam groups the time clock with schedules, forms and tasks inside one Operations hub; Communications and HR & Skills are separate hubs. If your shift week already runs on checklists as much as on hours, that bundling is the point.

Buddy Punch centers on the time workflow. Pro includes scheduling and Offline Mode; use the comparison to check whether those capabilities match your working day.

Approving and Reopening the Week

Connecteam separates approval and reopening permissions. An authorized admin can unlock an individual day without changing the overall approved status. Check the edited hours as well as the status label.

Buddy Punch managers with Time Approval permission can approve or reject assigned time cards. Approval locks the card against employee and management edits; an authorized manager can reject or reset it for correction.

• Connecteam owners remain an exception to its optional restriction on approving your own hours.
• Define who checks changed hours before the revised export.
• Settle before the pilot who approves, who reopens, and who gets told when a card reopens.

When the Signal Drops

Buddy Punch documents Offline Mode on the employee app: an admin enables it, a previously signed-in phone stores punches on the device, and they sync on reconnect. Only the Time Entry screen works offline; other views need a connection.

Two limits are worth repeating to the crew. Signing out while offline discards unsynced time, though closing the app does not. An event that violates a rule cannot sync and shows the reason, while the other events still go through.

• Connecteam's offline behavior is not documented in the pages we checked, so we claim nothing either way.
• Ask both vendors to show mobile, kiosk and reconnect behavior on a real device during the demo.
• For Buddy Punch offline punching, stay signed in until your records have synced.

Getting the Hours to Payroll

Connecteam exports individual sheets, Time Clock sheets and payroll totals as xlsx. A combined export across several Time Clocks requires identical break and overtime settings, on Advanced or above, which two sites with genuinely different rules will not share.

The Buddy Punch Payroll Export report carries regular, overtime, double time and PTO hours, in Excel or a provider format. Decide early which weeks a single file has to cover, and who signs it off before it leaves the building.

• If site policies really differ, ask about another export route rather than reshaping the policies to suit a report.
• Treat an integration badge as a question: automatic sync, or a file to export and import?
• Ask your payroll contact to open the file before the pilot ends, not after.

Try one fictional pay period in both tools

Test one scripted incident instead of a feature checklist. Picture twenty people across two sites, one missed clock-out on a Friday, the worker's written explanation on Monday, and a named approver who signs off the week in each product.

Next, introduce a correction after approval. Record the allowed editing path and any status change, ask the named approver to review the revised hours, then compare a new export with the receiving preview. This is a proposed demonstration using fictional data; do not send real payments.

• Agree the devices, location settings and access permissions included in the pilot.
• Use the same fortnight, the same people and the same incident in both demos.
• Write down who reopened the sheet and what the second export looked like.
